studied free art at the Bauhaus University in Weimar until 2004 after an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor at the Fachschule für das Holz- und Ivbeinverarbeitende Handwerk, Michelstadt i. Odw. In 2011, she completed her master's degree at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in the class for sculpture and architecture-related media in Dresden. Schimkat has lived in Leipzig since 2006. As a visual artist, she develops her work on the border between sculpture and sound. She is interested in the conscious perception of everyday sound spaces, which she works on in public spaces, as concerts or sound installations in a multidisciplinary approach.
(b. 1981) is a Swedish-Finnish composer and sound artist from Turku, Finland. Ahti works with field recordings and other acoustic sound material in combination with synthesizers and electronic feedback to find the space where these sounds begin to communicate. She makes music that rides waves of slowly deforming harmonies and mutating textures - raw, angular, yet precise and detailed compositions. Ahti has presented her music in many different contexts in Europe, Japan and the United States. She is currently active with her partner Niko-Matti Ahti in the duo Ahti & Ahti and the artist/organizer collective Himera.
