237
Hauptmeier | Recker
Immersive sound installation / 61 channels / November 19–28, 2021
In the installation by Hauptmeier | Recker, various generative acoustic processes sound through 61 speakers, some of which extend far beyond the exhibition period. 237 is an acoustic timeline — a 30-meter-long sound sculpture — surrounded by a dome of speakers that opens a discourse on different perceptions of time, the objectification of time, and immersion in relation to human-made phenomena in our environment such as global warming or radioactive waste.
In 237, the Leipzig artist duo engages with time spans, phenomena, and hyperobjects that elude the human perception, lifespans, and imagination limited by time. Global warming is one such example. If we could zoom out far enough to bring all the involved events into our field of vision, we might perceive them as traces of frozen movements — as an object that penetrates, absorbs, and becomes part of all involved humans. An object spanning millions of years, which extends far beyond our horizon and cannot end anytime soon.
With DRIVE In’21, the Center for Immersive Media Art, Music and Technology (ZiMMT) in Leipzig presents its first concert and sound installation series, establishing a clear focus on 3D audio.
