Ein Käfer, der Erinnerungen frisst
Fabian Raith und Sofie Neu
Science Fiction / 3D Audio Radio Play / Dezember 12, 2023
How long can you remember the sound of a voice after the person has died?
A bug has chewed its way through the cables of the server farm—Mika’s mother’s voice messages and photos are irretrievably lost. Mika sets out on an old augmented reality walk on the theme of “memory.” The walk dates from 2022, but Mika uses it in the year 2035 to wander through the city: layers of time overlap. Between public places of remembrance, digital monuments, and encounters with passersby, it becomes clear how looking into the future and into the past influence each other.
“A Bug That Eats Memories” was created as one of nine sci-fi audio dramas in the anthology series “2035” by ARD and Deutschlandfunk Kultur and was awarded Radio Play of the Month (December 2022) by the German Academy of Performing Arts.
ZiMMT co-founder Martin Recker composed the sound for the future-set audio drama. The production was originally broadcast in binaural format for headphones and is now presented for the first time as an immersive 3D audio play on 32 loudspeakers.
