Sound in a System
Leon Goltermann
Sound Installation / 20–22 October 2022
With the installation “sound in a system”, the layers of meaning in sounds and words and their connections can be playfully explored. It is an interactive game with context and association. Based on interviews, associations to onomatopoeic terms and sounds have been collected.
These associations can be accessed and newly connected through the installation.
Onomatopoeic language contains an imitative description of our acoustic environment. Sometimes this results in only a very rough copy, which, however, has its very own qualities. Additionally, this area of our vocabulary seems particularly suitable for describing social situations that themselves remain silent.
Thus, it offers approaches for reflection on the semantic significance of sounds, as well as humorous and comical insights into our own use of onomatopoeia.
Through a tracking system, reading is interactively connected with composing sounds. This creates a constantly new poem; an ever-new composition that the audience can shape through their choices.
