Eis im Bauch
Three-channel video installation / 3D audio / August 20, 2021
By arranging three screens and 32 speakers, an immersive space is created. New media technologies, such as 3D audio combined with multichannel production systems, (…) “enable an induced effect that pushes the user’s awareness of being exposed to illusory stimuli so far into the background that the virtual environment is perceived as real.” This can lead to profound emotional and physical experiences. Immersive media technologies have not only firmly established themselves in film and gaming but are also significantly explored and further developed through artistic concepts and ideas.
Visitors are completely enveloped visually and auditorily, and the created backdrop and atmosphere—with slow, smooth transitions—allow ample time for deep immersion. Spatial hearing, seeing, and experiencing provide unusual, intense impressions, evoking a wide range of associations. Visitors can move freely within the space and view the backdrop from different angles. The installation runs as a continuous loop, without a recognizable beginning or end.
One cycle lasts approximately 20 minutes.
ZiMMT has specialized in exactly this role of art and art mediation. The three-channel video installation presents impressive footage of ice formations, glaciers, water, snow, massive icebergs, and glacial water in various colors and states, almost romanticizing the beauty of nature. It floats, flows, breaks, glides, cracks, and whispers.
Then comes the abrupt break: a close-up of a woman “licking” an ice cream… Various licking, smacking, and sucking sounds are spatially composed and culminate together with the glacier footage into a rhythmic sound formation.
