How dare they try to end this bauty?

Multichannel Sound Sculpture / Burnt-out Fireworks, 8 min Sound Loop / April 27 – May 04, 2021
Towers of burnt-out fireworks stand as witnesses to exuberant celebration. From the charred batteries, human voices emerge through built-in speakers, mimicking the sounds of sparklers, screamers, and rockets.
How dare they try to end this beauty? explores the ability to feel and express joy and pleasure—especially as a collective. Expressing emotions outwardly can become a starting point for social change. Raising one’s voice and realizing how far it can carry is an empowering experience. Motivating one another, joining in, and listening to each other are essential foundations for a loving practice. Because without solidarity with those who are barely holding on, every emancipatory claim vanishes in a cloud of smoke.
So that the outrage over social and political shortcomings doesn’t dissipate as soon as our own privileges are questioned, we need staying power. This work deals with the possibilities of rebellion, the strength, radicalism, and exhaustion of bodies; with voices that unite and voices that stand alone.
