If we Vanish
Immersive audiovisual performance / 3D audio / November 13–14, 2021
If we Vanish is an immersive audiovisual and contemporary dance performance that serves as an artistic study of some of the quietest and most remote places on Earth. The project was initiated by Nikhil and Felix after they made a series of audio recordings of these isolated locations. Together with a solo dancer, they explore the aesthetic representation of these endangered soundscapes and investigate their potential for mutation caused by human influence and presence.
In the performance, this second level of transformation of the space and its character is derived through tracking the dancer’s body and gestures. It can be seen as an interactive variable, interpolated into a purely natural data set, naturally emerging in various states of consciousness.
A three-dimensional in-between space is created through spatial sound arrangements and depth-generating projection mapping, surrounding the audience and immersing them acoustically and visually into a tropical jungle, the middle of a desert, or the darkness of one of the world’s deepest caves.
Presented in a 3D audio format, this performance showcases some of the most pristine, untouched, and ecologically diverse environments, which have been excluded from human interaction for thousands of years and are now at risk of disappearing.
