Marja Ahti • Anna Schimkat
3D audio concert of the series All:y:ears / August 19, 2022
Anna Schimkat
After completing an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor at the Technical School for Wood and Ivory Craftsmanship in Michelstadt i. Odw., she studied Fine Arts at the Bauhaus University in Weimar until 2004. In 2011, she completed her masterclass at the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden in the Sculpture and Architecture-Related Media department. Since 2006, Schimkat has lived in Leipzig. As a visual artist, she develops her work at the intersection of sculpture and sound. She is interested in the conscious perception of everyday soundscapes, which she explores in public spaces, concerts, or sound installations through a multidisciplinary approach.
Marja Ahti
(born 1981) is a Swedish-Finnish composer and sound artist from Turku, Finland. Ahti works with field recordings and other acoustic sound materials combined with synthesizers and electronic feedback to find the space where these sounds begin to communicate. She creates music that rides waves of slowly morphing harmonies and mutating textures—raw, edgy, yet precise and richly detailed compositions. Ahti has presented her music in various contexts across Europe, Japan, and the United States. She is currently active with her partner Niko-Matti Ahti in the duo Ahti & Ahti and in the artist/organizer collective Himera.
