DIY & Synth Meetup vs. Open Thursdays

DIY & Synth Meetup is a community event for interested people in and beyond Leipzig. Highly interesting workshops all about synthesizers, synth DIY and 3D audio. For our first issue of of the event series we were able to win very interesting cooperation partners.

The workshops start at 10:30am and require a pre-sale ticket. Join the Open Soundlab and ZiMMT’s 3D audio system for a workshop and jam session without a ticket and free of charge from 5pm, or just have drinks at the bar, meet and share ideas.

The general admission price for the workshop part of the day is 20€. For some workshops you will have to pay additional material costs later, depending on the workshop and chosen DIY kits, preferably by PayPal during the event. Be sure to select the correct ticket on the ticket website to ensure you have a guaranteed spot in your desired workshop, as places are limited.

• 2pm – Grapes workshop: Introduction to music production for 3D audio systems with Grapes

Moritz Klein / Erica Synths – DIY Workshop
Start: 11am

In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll not only build a fully-functioning Kick Drum module on a breadboard – you’ll also gain an in-depth understanding of how it works. For that, Moritz Klein will guide you through the basics of analog circuit design, providing you with practical skills that you can apply to your own DIY projects.

You’ll get a full mki x es.edu DIY Kick kit by Erica Synths, along with a breadboard, batteries, and jumper cables, so you can continue experimenting at home. And once you’re ready, you can even assemble the Kick into a proper Eurorack module using the included PCB and panel.

Error Instruments – DIY Workshop

Error’s kits are as unique as Paul Tas himself and we’re happy to have him on board. Noise, weird sounds, crackling, screaming and electronic circuits at their limit – that’s the world of Error Instruments. Register for the beginner-friendly workshop with the ticket and pick your DIY kit spontaneously on that day, then you also do the rest payment, PayPal preferred. Possible kits are: Flower Fields Drone (65€), Noise Lab (89€), Game Cat Synth (85€) or Cloud Busting (109€).

Exploding Shed – DIY Workshop

In our workshop we offer a selection of modules which make sense when you start out with Eurorack and these are generally proven kits and also easy to build. LeafAudio Noisefoc (Easy, 75€), Cubusynth ADSR (Medium, 75€), Befaco Stereo Strip (Easy, 115€), Feedback Modules LFO-20 (Easy, 40€), LeafAudio ATT/MLT/FPF (Easy, 17,90€), Shakmat Dual Dagger VCF (Easy, 183€). Register for the workshop and then pick your DIY kit spontaneously on that day.

Schneidersladen – Modular Patching Workshop

Join our modular patching workshop by Schneidersladen, suitable for beginners intermediate level. This workshop is for anyone thinking about getting their first modular synthesizer or expand existing knowledge. We will cover all topics necessary to understand the principles of synthesis and patching. We’ll cover the basic vocabulary needed to navigate the world of modular synthesis, and of course you’ll be able to ask the questions that your own research didn’t provide the answer to.

Mazetools Workshop

Mazetools are audio-visual creative apps for mobile devices and desktop. The instruments focus on the creative moment and make sound synthesis a multi-sensory experience. The workshop will show the basics of the Mazetools Soniface software, the use of generative synths in scenes with 7.1 audio and the link to webcam-based motion tracking.

Grapes 3D Audio Workshop

Grapes allows producers, sound engineers and creative professionals to produce in a standardised and optimised workflow directly in their familiar music production software for various, 3D audio systems. The workshop illustrates advanced functions for the automation and movement of sound sources in order to quickly generate complex motion sequences through intuitive operation.

With the Sound Lab, ZiMMT opens its doors every second Thursday from 5 to 9pm from March to November 2023 to share its technical capabilities and knowledge. No previous technical knowledge and no equipment of your own are necessary for participation – an interest in working with sound in space or experimenting with sound is enough! You are welcome to bring specific questions about Max, Reaper, Ambisonics, IEM plugins, surround sound mixing etc. or projects, but it is not necessary. But you can also start trying things out on the spot.
